Flatcon Sportsmanship System

For each of our two major tournaments we have a 30 point sportsmanship score and sportsmanship award.  The two tournaments have 150 pts total, so sportmanship is 20% of the overall awards.

On the results page for each round you will be asked to check a list of items as they relate to your opponent.  There are ten items worth 1 pt each, so 10 pts per round, and 3 rounds equals 30pts.

The sportmanship items are:
My opponent showed up on time to start the round.
My opponent provided me with a copy of their army list before the game began.
My opponent brought everything needed to play the game (e.g. dice, templates, tape measures, etc).
My opponent measured distances consistently and accurately.
My opponent was consistent with dice rolling (e.g. pulling away failed dice, rerolling cocked dice etc.).
My opponent handled rules disputes in a fair and equitable fashion.
My opponent played the game at a fair pace/ did not ever seem to “slow play”.
My opponent demonstrated a reasonable level of rules knowledge.
My opponent helped create a competitive but fun and respectful atmosphere to play in.
My opponent was exceptional on all levels to the point of being one of the best opponents I have ever faced.

It may not be perfect, but I think it does a reasonable job of preventing sandbagging, which is my biggest concern with sportmanship.

Our tie breaker has always been highest battle points.  I think getting good sportsmanship means considerably more when you win than win you lose.  If you win people tend to sandbag you and if you lost people give you good marks out of pity.  But winning and having good sportsmanship isn't really attributable to anything else but being a good sport.

Anyways, one week out!  I'll see/meet you all next weekend.
